 Savoring a Shared Experience
Capturing the moments that make our school special
At this time of year, our divisions are busy putting the finishing touches on the FIS and FISW yearbooks that will hold many memories for our students in years to come. I still have my own yearbook from when I was a student, and although it’s been many years since I flipped through its pages, I am certain that doing so would instantly bring back a flood of fond memories. I am sure many of our students will have the same experience with their own FIS yearbook, when years ahead they look back on the friends and experiences they had at FIS, possibly even sharing the pictures and memories with their own children.
While my family originally joined the school because of the exceptional educational opportunities it offered our children, I quickly learned that FIS was also a special place for adults.
A yearbook can be especially important for those who will be leaving FIS at the end of this school year. It becomes a priceless artifact of their time at our special school, filled with the faces of
their peers and the caring adults who impacted their lives both in and out of the classroom. The yearbooks also chronicle the key events in a school year and, as they grow older, will help our FIS alumni remember the excitement of events such as their class trips, stage productions and sport competitions, or experiences like spirit week or Worldfest.
Through my involvement as a volunteer and engagement in other facets of our vibrant community, FIS has become more than just a school for my children. It has become a source of enrichment for my entire family. As we prepare to say goodbye to families who will be leaving us at the end of this school year, I am aware that it is not only some of our students who are leaving FIS, but their parents as well.
While we do not have an adult yearbook to offer our parents, I hope you have your own family collection of pictures and memories from our shared FIS experience. I extend my gratitude to everyone at FIS for being a part of our community this school year, with a special wish to our departing families for a bright future. Our Mission highlights that we are a family-oriented school, and on behalf of our Board of Trustees, I thank you for your community involvement and for sharing the gift of your children with our school.
