Alumni gather in Arizona’s desert for a weekend reunion
Alumni who attended FIS in the 1960s and 1970s spent a wonderful weekend together in Scottsdale, Arizona this past August. FIS alumna Sharon Arnold ‘79, shares an account of the memorable event below.
Forty former FIS students and their family members converged on Boulders Resort & Spa to pick-up
where we left o on the long-time friendships conceived and nurtured at FIS. Attendees ew in from all over the USA and one even arrived from Frankfurt!
The get-together was planned and organized by my classmates, Claudia Zeien (Class of 1979) and Vicki Mack Meadows (Class of 1975) who did a magni cent job. Chris Cataldo (Class of 1976) organized the music for the Saturday main event as well as an
all-day bus trip to Sedona. We were joined by our friend Ray Morgenstern, former FIS teacher and Athletic Department Director.
During the weekend we toured and explored the hills and canyons of the rugged Arizona countryside by plane, bus, jeep, and foot. The weather was beautiful and Sedona is a magical place. Famous for its red rocks, spectacular scenery, and eclectic culture, the trip was a huge success.
In Scottsdale we enjoyed dinner at a Southwestern-themed restaurant. Other activities included a visit to the nearby Frank Lloyd Wright house, a local winery, and relaxing around the resort’s swimming pools.
A highlight of the weekend was the Alumni Reunion Party at the Boulders
Resort on Saturday evening. We were delivered by golf carts to a dinner party with a Southwestern bu et and enjoyed music on the dance oor, photo-ops, and a beautiful sunset nestled between boulders on the Arizona desert.
We were able to enjoy the beautiful scenery in Arizona, relax at the spa and, most importantly, spend time with classmates and friends. It was a great opportunity to see each other, have fun together, and even make new friends. Good times, old yearbooks people brought along, and shared fond memories were the focus. We are family, after all.
