Community Connections
With restricted access to our campuses and fewer overall events due to the pandemic, our school has come up with new ways to keep our community connected. Some of the upcoming virtual events will include:
Parent Tech Academies
ICT Coordinators on both campuses share tips on tech top- ics ranging from navigating the school’s online resources to protecting devices from cyberthreats, maximizing GSuite and social media safely.
Virtual Book Club
FIS/FISW parents can now join a virtual book club, where participants will read and discuss one book each month. Discussions take place via Zoom breakout rooms, where 6-8 readers share their thoughts on the selected book.
PTG Parent Seminars
Bi-monthly PTG seminars have moved to an online format where parents can join in from the comfort of their homes to hear presentations from school leadership or outside ex- perts on a range of engaging topics.
Connecting the Community Series
Similar to online masterclasses, the PTG’s Connecting the Community Series features talented FIS parents sharing their hobbies, talents or expertise with other members of the FIS community.
Cultural Celebrations
FISW’s successful virtual Oktoberfest celebration has paved the way for other upcoming virtual events such as a German Christmas, Chinese New Year or Kings Day (Dutch), in which community members can celebrate these cultural holi- days together.

About the back page: This semester, Grade 7 students learned about the intaglio printmaking process. They used their own portrait as inspiration to convey light, shadow and value in cross hatch. The pro- cess involved students carving into a plexiglas sheet before it was covered in ink, strategically whipped, and then printed on thick cotton paper using an etching printing press.
